Southeast Soccer would not be possible without you!

What is Southeast Soccer?

Established in 1981, Southeast Minneapolis Soccer (SES) is a small, community-based soccer club that provides opportunities for boys and girls between the ages of 8-18 to play traveling soccer in leagues sponsored by the Minnesota Youth Soccer Association (MYSA).

SES offers an alternative to larger traveling soccer clubs.

  • We offer a more affordable experience than most other traveling soccer clubs (by keeping overhead very low).
  • We deliberately keep cohorts of kids together as they develop (and do not actively re-organize teams each season).
  • We are committed to skill development in a supportive but less regimented environment.

SES is run by a volunteer board of directors and has two part-time employees (both of whom work limited hours) that are charged with facilitating registration (Club Coordinator) and promoting the club (Club Representative).

What is the role of the SES Board?

The SES Board of Directors has five core functions

  • Financial oversight. The SES Board sets fee schedules, monitors expenses, and ensures that SES funds are used in a prudent, appropriate manner.
  • Employee oversight. The SES Board hires and manages SES employees and contractors.
  • Program Development. The SES Board is responsible for developing club wide programming (e.g. Futsal, Winter Training, and the SES Jamboree).
  • Policy Development. The SES Board creates policies and systems so that there is some level of consistency on how teams operate throughout the club.
  • Creating Organizational Culture. The SES Board sets the tone for what SES is and how it operates.

What is the time commitment?

The SES Board meets approximately 8 times per year, typically for two hours on a mutually agreeable weekday evening. (It is understood Board Members may occasionally have to miss a meeting). Individual board members may take on tasks outside of meetings (e.g. meeting with staff, helping organize an event, securing facility rental) as their interest, schedule and time allow.

Who is eligible to be on the SES Board?

Participation on the SES Board is open to Eligible voting members shall be anyone age 16 years and older that is a player on a Southeast Soccer team, a parent of a Southeast Soccer player, or a volunteer coach or manager of a Southeast Soccer team. Due to potential conflicts of interest, employees and contractors of Southeast Soccer are not eligible voting members even if they are a player, parent, or volunteer and would otherwise be eligible.

Why should I volunteer to be on the SES Board?

  1. Southeast Soccer would not be possible without volunteers like you. Our club has filled a unique niche in the local soccer environment for over 30 years. Your participation supports that legacy.
  2. As parents, we all have opinions about what we want our kids’ experiences with different activities to be like; the SES Board represents an opportunity to have some input into your child’s experience with traveling soccer.
  3. It’s fun! While the Board takes its responsibilities seriously, the Board is collegial, fun and connects you with your friends, neighbors and community.

OK, you convinced me. Now what?

Send us an email (board@sesoccer.org) telling us a little about yourself and why you’d like to participate. Someone from the SES Board will be in touch with more information.
