Interview with Southeast Soccer Player Jalis Bouzouina

December 2016

1. You are a Southeast Soccer player with the U10 Boys Seahawks. How long have you been with the Seahawks and Southeast Soccer?

I would say that this is my 5th or 6th season, so that’s three years.

2. What motivates you to play soccer and what are your goals as a player?

What motivates me is, my home city was Marseille, and they had a good soccer team. That’s when I started liking soccer.

My father and my older brother, they were playing soccer with me in my backyard and at the park. One day my mom comes and she’s like “Do you want to play for a soccer team?” And I’m like, “Sure, that would be so fun!” I got to meet great players who are my friends now. I have great coaches.

My goals as a soccer player are to score goals, play a good game, be friends with my teammates and get to know my teammates and coaches more.

3. How would your fellow teammates describe you?

Well, this is a tough one because it’s not really me who should be answering this question. I think they would say…I still don’t know what they would say. If I were one of my teammates I might say “Hey J, you’re doing good, but maybe you could pass more. We know you’re fast and everything, but working as a team is better than a personal player.”

4. What is your favorite SES memory or experience?

My favorite experience was probably when we went to the finals this season. We weren’t supposed to go and we somehow managed to get to the finals. We played a great game in the finals. We played a great team and we played great as a team—great passes, great shots, great goalies, great defense. And then we won the finals. [Editor’s note: The Seahawks played up and were the U11 C3 Champions of the 2016 Woodbury Fall Classic Tournament]

5. What should parents know about traveling soccer before they commit their children and families?

They should know that sometimes you have to travel far even though they might lose, it’s OK. You have to be ready to travel.
